Symphony Strings is a beginner level strings class for Pendleton School District 4th and 5th grade students. Students will learn basic playing technique for an instrument of their choice (violin, viola, or cello), elementary music reading, and beginning group ensemble performance. Classes meet 3:45-4:15 Mondays and Wednesdays at PENDLETON HIGH SCHOOL in the MUSIC DEPARTMENT beginning Monday, October 18th. This year, parents/guardians will be responsible for providing transportation for their children participating in the program.
To enroll:
1. Fill out and return the attached Registration Form and payment to your classroom teacher by Thursday, October 14th. There is also an online registration form available on our website (www.OregonEastSymphony.org). There is non-refundable $50 registration fee (need based financial assistance is available). Enrollment in the program is not considered final until the Oregon East Symphony has confirmed receipt of a student’s registration form and fee.
2. The student and a parent/guardian are required to attend the Parent Orientation Night, at 6:00pm on Thursday October 14th, that will take place online via Google Classroom. We will email all registrants a link to the orientation. That link will also be available on the front page of our website. Although it is highly recommended that you attend the orientation so you have an opportunity to ask questions, the session will be recorded and available for viewing afterwards.
Instruments can be rented from the Pendleton Music Company (541-276-6621). A few instruments are available from OES. These instruments have a separate check out form and $35 rental fee. Instruments come in different sizes, and fitting an instrument to your child is crucial to getting a good start in playing. Please don’t purchase or rent an instrument until your child has been measured by a member of the program or Pendleton Music Company staff. All violinists/violists will also need their own shoulder rests, and cellists will need an endpin stop.
